Around 30,000 people gathered in Mexico City on Sunday, expressing solidarity with the Oaxaca teachers’ strike. The demonstration was organised by left-wing political party Morena, whose leader, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, addressed the huge crowd, criticizing the government of Enrique Pena Nieto. At least 10 people were killed in Oaxaca on June 21 during clashes between police and a teachers’ union, who protested education reforms. The protest coincided with another demonstration commemorating the anniversary of the disappearance of 43 students in Ayotzinapa on September 26, 2014.
