Russian hockey star and 2018 NHL champion Alexander Ovechkin has taken the Stanley Cup to the Fan Fest zone in Moscow to show off the giant silver trophy just hours before Russia’s World Cup quarter-final against Croatia.

The 32-year-old hockey star put the trophy on display in the fan area located on Vorobyovy Gory (Sparrow Hills), allowing thousands of fans to take pictures with the iconic silver cup.

Ovechkin played a crucial role in helping the Washington Capitals beat the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup finals last month to win the franchise’s first-ever NHL championship, as well as a maiden win for the Russian.

The Capitals captain attended Russia’s World Cup last 16 game against Spain at Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday, when the hosts sensationally secured a shootout victory to eliminate the 2010 champions.
