Husky ride & F1 race tracks: Peter Schmeichel explores World Cup host city Sochi

Goalkeeping great Peter Schmeichel continues to explore local culture in 2018 FIFA World Cup host cities. He visits Sochi, the host city of the 2014 winter Olympics, which will welcome the world’s best footballers this summer.

Six 2018 FIFA World Cup games will be staged in Sochi, including a highly-anticipated clash between two football giants Spain and Portugal, as well as two knockout stage matches on June 30 and July 7.

One of the most remarkable things about Sochi is that, apart from being a famous sea resort, it’s also a popular winter sports destination. Surrounded by high mountains it offers some of Russia's best skiing slopes almost all year round as snow doesn’t melt there - even in June.

To test Sochi’s Olympic tracks Schmeichel embarks on a husky sled ride - a popular tourist attraction in Russia.

Schmeichel’s next stop is Russia’s one and only Formula One facility, Sochi Autodrom, which was constructed to host the world’s most prestigious car racing Grand Prix events.
The German goalkeeper tests his driving skills crossing the 5.848-kilometre circuit in a red Porsche.

His Sochi trip ends up in one of the city’s sanatoriums where the goalkeeping legend takes a pine bath to relax after his exhausting adventures in Russia’s Black Sea resort.
