Lizzie Phelan is RT’s Middle East correspondent based in Damascus. Her work for RT has focused on the war in Syria where she covers both the human tragedy caused by the conflict and significant battlefield developments. Lizzie moved to Berlin in 2012 to join the launch team of RT’s video news agency Ruptly where she headed the newsroom for its first 3 years as it built a network of over 1,000 video journalists worldwide and made its mark through its focus on digital platforms and the latest technologies. As Head of Newsroom, she continued to work in the field coordinating Ruptly's coverage of the biggest stories of the day including the Gezi Park protests in Istanbul in 2013 and the outbreak of war in East Ukraine in 2014. Lizzie started her journalism career after completing a postgrad in Journalism in London and went on to report for Britain’s Morning Star daily newspaper and later went to work for Press TV. For Press TV she spent months in Libya covering NATO’s bombing campaign up until the fall of the government led by Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.
