Locals trying to contain the raging fires in northwestern Galicia on Sunday were forced to flee when the flames jumped across the highway, aided by gusts of wind. Flames reportedly crept close to the municipalities of Salvaterra de Mino and As Neves, in the province of Pontevedra, as well as Vigo's municipality of Zamanes.
As the wildfires ripped through the outskirts of the forests, some people battled the blaze by throwing earth on the flames, while others formed a human chain passing water buckets.
The wildfires in Galicia have already claimed the lives of two people.
