Dozens of mate farmers from the northern Argentinean province of Misiones gathered in Plaza de Mayo in central Buenos Aires on Thursday, and gave away about 30,000 packs of mate leaves to protest against the low wages they earn in comparison to the product's final price in supermarkets.

Mate leaves are traditionally used in making infusions that can allegedly cure various diseases. It's also often used as an alternative to coffee, due to its high caffeine content.
