Rio revels in Carnival spirit as Samba schools compete in parade

Thousands of revelers flocked to the Sambodrome arena for Rio de Janeiro's world famous carnival parade on Sunday. The festive crowd watched six of the world's best samba schools dance-off as part of this year's carnival tournament. Carnival celebrations officially kicked off on Friday, and are scheduled to last until Tuesday. The festival is held before lent every year and is considered to be the largest carnival in the world, attracting up to two million visitors per day.
