Hundreds of people marched through the center of Kiev to Independence Square on Februaty 26 to mark the ‘Day of Crimean Resistance.’ The march was organized by the Mejlis, the executive-representative body of the Crimean Tatar people, along with a number of public and youth organizations.
On this day three years ago, Crimean Tatar activists held a rally outside the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, which was opposed by those supporting Crimea’s accession to Russia.
On April 26, 2016, the Supreme Court of the Crimean Republic outlawed the Mejlis as an extremist group and banned its activities within the Russian Federation.
