Police use tear gas at anti-Temer protesters in Rio
Clashes erupted between police and demonstrators in Rio de Janeiro late Friday, after a march against spending cut proposals by both the federal and state governments. Thousands of people, mostly public school teachers and public university professors as well as union members, marched in downtown Rio de Janeiro toward the state legislative assembly.
Towards the end of the protest, which had been peaceful, a small group of masked men known as “Black Bloc” began throwing glass bottles and fireworks at police who responded with tear gas, stun grenades and pepper spray. At least two people were detained.
