Thousands of people from across Italy rallied in Rome on Saturday to demonstrate against Matteo Renzi’s government and its new labour reform package. The protesters decried the forthcoming national referendum on constitutional reform, which is due to take place on December 4. They were also demanding safeguards for workers’ rights and a boost in growth and employment rates. The participants held up various banners reading “Let’s win the referendum with our ‘no’ – let’s fight for Italexit,” and “European Union, imperialistic beast.” Some even depicted the prime minister as Benito Mussolini.
