The St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra played at New York's Carnegie Hall on Friday, inaugurating the international celebration of Russia Day in the US. It’s the first time Russia’s national day has been celebrated in five different countries on the same day. Other famous Russian artistic groups are playing in venues across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Americas, comprising a total of 550 performers. Led by Deputy Artistic Director Nikolai Alexeev, the orchestra played Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5.
