Brazil brutal clashes: Injuries, arrests at transport cost hike protest

A journalist was shot in the leg and several other people were injured when protesters clashed with police during the second Free Pass Movement (MPL) demonstration in Sao Paulo on Friday. Six people were arrested, with some of sustaining injuries that required them to be taken to hospital. According to witness reports, the protest remained calm until evening, but escalated when the activists marched towards city hall. Over 10,000 people had gathered to protest against rising public transport fares according to organizers, while police estimated the number to be around 2,000.
