Scuffles broke out between hundreds of protesters and police during a demonstration against the removal of 44 artworks from the Catalan Museum of Lleida on Monday. Catalan demonstrators attempted to stop police from moving the disputed artworks, originally from the Monastery of Sigena, which had been donated to the museum. Activists started arriving at the museum at 4:00 on Monday morning, at the time the removal operation also began. Culture Minister Inigo Mendez de Vigo filed a petition with a judge from Aragon requesting the return of these religious artefacts.
