Riot police prevented an anti-American rally from marching to the US Consulate in Karachi on Sunday. Tear gas was deployed and the local force baton-charged the protesters. Later, demonstrators reportedly responded to appeals for calm and agreed to disperse. The protesters were rallying against recent remarks by US President Donald Trump in which he accused Pakistan of harboring terrorists. The bold statement from the US leader came earlier this month as he was outlining a new strategy for the war in Afghanistan.
