Local residents and alleged members of a criminal group known as ‘Familia Michoacana’ set up road blocks in the Tierra Caliente region, Guerrero state, in southern Mexico, to prevent the state police and the army from carrying out an anti-crime operation, local media report.
Protesters set buses and other vehicles on fire in an attempt to stop the police. Unconfirmed reports suggest 10 people were held hostage and then freed.
