People in the German town of Luegde, in the North Rhine-Westphalia federal state, celebrated the 2,000-year-old 'Osterräderlauf' pagan festival by setting hay wheels on fire and rolling them down a hill. According to tradition, the wheels are meant to drive away winter and signal the start of spring.
