Police confronted protesters with tear gas and water cannons in Dhaka, as hundreds gathered to protest in front of the Bangladeshi Energy Ministry following a recent wave of hikes in energy prices.
Protesters threw rocks against water cannons and pushed barricades against the police as they tried to make their way to the entrance of the energy ministry. The protest was called for by leftist parties after the government issued an increase in gas prices by an average of 22.7 percent.
