Thousands of displaced residents from Mosul’s western Maamoun neighborhood arrived at the government-controlled al-Jadaa camp on Sunday, as Iraqi forces continue their offensive to retake the city from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL).

On October 17, the Iraqi army, Kurdish and Shia militias, and the US-led anti-IS coalition launched an operation to liberate Mosul, which was captured by IS in 2014. Mosul is the last major city in Iraq still under IS control.
