Several brown bears at Helsinki's Korkeasaari Zoo were exploring their snowy enclosure on Monday, having come out of hibernation a month early.

Zookeepers believe that the bears, who are 10 and 15 years old, cut short their hibernation due to mild weather. For these northern creatures, hibernation is a way to survive long, snowy winters when the temperatures drop and food is scarce.
