Indian passenger train about to cross bridge derails

Five coaches and the engine of a passenger train derailed in the Kokrajhar district of Assam early Saturday, injuring the driver and his assistant as well as several passengers. Northeast Frontier Railway have said the incident occurred between Salakati and Basugaon at around 5:15am local time. The 55753 UP Sifung train traveling from Alipurduar to Guwahati reportedly hit a tree that had fallen on the tracks just in front of a railway bridge. An investigation into the precise causes of the derailment has been launched. A recovery train was dispatched immediately to the crash site to provide medical help and recovery equipment.
