Protesters and riot police clashed in Nantes, western France, on Saturday, as hundreds marched against the construction of a new airport. Riot police fired tear gas and used water cannons to disperse the protesters, who threw projectiles at the heavily armored officers. Protests and various political actions against the construction of the airport have been ongoing for at least a decade.
