Riot police dodged fireworks and aimed water cannon at protesters in Istanbul on Wednesday as people protested against the lenient verdict for two police officers. In 2013 the policemen beat to death a 19-year-old Ali Ismail Korkmaz, who took part in Gezi protests in the south-east of Istanbul.

The protest occurred after a Kayseri court in central Anatolia sentenced the two officers to 10 years in prison, considered to be too lenient by many demonstrators. The large group marched through the district of Kadikoy, carrying banners bearing the face Ali Ismail Korkmaz.

Two other officers were acquitted in the trial, with another four civilians sentenced to prison stretches ranging between three to six years. The trial was moved from Istanbul to Kayseri due to fears of violent protests.
