One of the largest domed stadiums in the United States was destroyed in a scheduled implosion in downtown Atlanta on Monday. The Georgia Dome, opened in 1992, hosted the Olympics, two Super Bowls, and three semifinals of the NCAA basketball tournament. It was replaced this summer by the nearby Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
