A group of rescuers and the Department of Wildlife Conservation of Sri Lanka saved an elephant trapped in a canal after a nine-hour operation on Tuesday. The rescuers took the elephant out of the water using branches and ropes while the terrified animal struggled to make it up the bank. After being brought onto dry land the elephant was released into the local forest reserve.
