A wreath-laying ceremony in honor of a Soviet Mi-6 helicopter crew, who crashed in 1967 while fighting massive wildfires in France, took place in the town of Le Rove. Yury Garnaev, a renowned Soviet test pilot, led the crew of eight (two French and six Soviets). French officials and Russian veterans paid tribute to the crew at the monument built in memory of the tragic event. The town’s mayor, Georges Rosso, said the French will not forget the pilots who “died defending our town.”
