A Russian Soyuz 2-1v rocket with Mayak satellite on board was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on Friday. The tiny satellite – for the first time in Russia financed through crowd-funding – will unfurl a giant pyramid-shaped solar reflector in space. It is expected to bounce the sun’s light back towards Earth, which could make it the brightest man-made object in orbit and the fourth-brightest object in space after the sun, moon, and Venus.
