The Yemen National Army, backed by the Saudi Arabia-led coalition, gained control of areas in the northwest of Taiz, the third-largest city in Yemen, following fierce fighting against Houthi militants and forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh on Thursday.

According to UNHCR estimates, around 4,500 civilians have been killed and more than 8,000 injured since the escalation of the Yemen conflict in March, 2015.
