Zhang Shengwu, a 51-year-old farmer, received a Chinese government patent for a submarine he designed and built himself for around US$760 in the Eastern Chinese city of Maanshan. The submarine measures 6 meters long and 60cm wide, offering just enough room for one person, and can dive to a depth of one meter.
