A group of people gathered on Istanbul’s Taksim Square to protest against what they term "terror attacks" that took place in the Cizre district of the southeastern Sırnak Province on Sunday. Following a press statement in front of Galatasaray High School, the police warned the protesters to wrap up their demo and disperse. Clashes erupted when the protesters resisted. Police then fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd. The Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) allegedly bombed a checkpoint in Sirnak in southeast Turkey earlier Sunday, killing two police officers; an incident which led to violent clashes in Diyarbakir in which five PKK fighters were reported killed.
