Thousands of right-wing Ukrainian nationalists marched through Kiev on Friday, to demand that the government ends the ceasefire in eastern Ukraine that was agreed in Minsk. Members from the Right Sector, its paramilitary wing the Volunteer Ukrainian Corps (DUK), and the Aidar Battalion took part in the demonstration. The event was called the ‘March of Sviatoslav’ after Grand Prince Sviatoslav I of Kiev who defeated the Khazar Khanate in the year 965. Sviatoslav’s victory has been appropriated by Ukrainian nationalists as a symbol of the conflict in eastern Ukraine between Kiev and anti-government forces.
