Fans of the Chilean national football team descended on the center of Santiago on Thursday to celebrate their side's victory over Uruguay in the Copa America. Supporters gathered at the intersection of Vicuna Mackenna and La Avenida Libertador General Bernardo O'Higgins to wave Chilean flags and set off fireworks following their team's 1-0 victory. At around 00:00 (03:00 GMT) police deployed water cannons to disperse those who remained in the area. They detained several fans, some of whom were seen throwing bottles and stones at police vehicles. With a solitary goal from Mauricio Isla, Chile beat Uruguay to progress to the last four of the Copa America.
