Hundreds of pro-Israeli demonstrators, who gathered to celebrate 'Jerusalem Day', clashed with dozens of pro-Palestinian activists opposed to the rally. Reports indicate at least two Palestinians were arrested by Israeli police.

Jerusalem Day, which has often been fraught with violence, celebrates the establishment of Israel's control of Jerusalem's Old City in the aftermath of the June 1967 Six-Day War. Israeli control of East Jerusalem is rejected under international law, with United Nations Security Council Resolution 478 condemning the 'annexation' as illegal in 1980.
