A remembrance ceremony and a battle reenactment took place on Mount Sapun near Sevastopol on Sunday. The event marks the 71st anniversary of the liberation of the city by the Red Army in WWII. Local residents where shown a reenactment of the storming of Mount Sapun, which happened on May 3, 1944. The mount was an impenetrable base for the Nazis before the Red Army eventually captured the strategic location and drove Nazi forces from Sevastopol.

Soldiers from the Naval Forces of the Black Sea carried the flags of warships and infantry units that fought in the battle, and floral tributes were laid at the Eternal Flame on top of Mount Sapun to honor those who died to liberate the city.
