Hundreds of miners took to the streets of Kiev on Wednesday to protest against the privatization of Ukraine's coal industry. Demanding state support for the industry, the miners rapped their helmets in front of the government building. The authorities are planning to reduce state support for the industry by privatizing all the enterprises from 2016. All mines that do not go private will be liquidated along with the state-owned Ugol Ukrainy. As much as 89 million euros ($100 million) is to be set aside from Ukraine's national 2015 budget to prepare for the liquidation of the mines.
