Track down cheating spouses? There's an app for that.
A post on the popular MacRumors.com website raked in more than 100,000 views over the weekend after a new iPhone 4S user explained how he used the trendy new app to see where his wife was texting him from. It turns out that the man found his friend — and found her trapped in a lie.
"I got my wife a new 4s and loaded up find my friends without her knowing,” writes a concerned husband on the MacRumors site. “She told me she was at her friends house in the east village. I've had suspicions about her meeting this guy who live uptown. Lo and behold, Find my Friends has her right there.”
The husband texted her to ask about her whereabouts, then cross-checked it with the GPS-location that the phone was reporting back. To say that she was where she claimed would be like comparing, well, apples and oranges.
“These beautiful treasure trove of screen shots [sic] going to play well when I meet her … at the lawyer's office in a few weeks,” he writes.
“Thankfully, she's the rich one."
Administrators with MacRumors aren’t capable of confirming the legitimacy of the man’s claims, though they have admitted that the post did indeed generate a lot of feedback. If his story does turn out to be false, however, it doesn’t mean that the Find My Friends app can’t catapult a marriage into divorce — the (soon to be) ex-husband’s statements certainly match up with what the application claims it can do.
In this case, the iPhone’s ability to track locations could usurp the E-ZPass as the unlikely catalyst in corrupting marriages. Since the electronic toll collection service was instated years ago, several relationships have been shattered after attorneys subpoenaed system records to track which highway exits suspicious spouses were taking on supposed business trips and other outings. In Illinois, they received 30 subpoenas in only the first few months of 2007.
With Apple moving 4 million new iPhones off the shelf in just the first three days of its release, here’s to many more marriages ruined by modern technology!
