Turkish football match abandoned after fan beats up referee (VIDEO)
The Turkish Super Lig football match between Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce was abandoned on Sunday after a fan attacked the assistant referee.

The fan ran on to the pitch and started attacking the official, Volkan Bayarslan, pushing him to the ground and punching him.

The supporter was then tackled by security staff, but players and officials ran off the pitch and the match was abandoned.

The incident came towards the end of the match, which Trabzonspor were losing 4-0.

Throughout the game fans had been pelting the pitch with various objects.

Fenerbahce are set to be awarded the win for the game, with Trabzonspor likely to face sanction from the Turkish league over the incident.

Trabzonspor, from the city of Trabzon, currently lie 11th in the table, while Fenerbahce are second and are battling for the league with Istanbul rivals Besiktas.

This is not the first time Turkish football has come under the spotlight for fans’ misbehavior.

In November, fans were widely condemned for booing during the minute’s silence for the victims of the Paris attacks before the national team played Greece.
