Britain ‘committed to upholding Iran deal,’ says UK PM

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has told her Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani, that the British government is committed to ensuring the Iran nuclear deal is upheld. The future of the deal is in doubt after US President Donald Trump announced plans to pull the US out of the agreement that was signed in 2015. The deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was supported at the time by the US, China, Britain, France, Russia and the European Union. Trump now plans to introduce fresh sanctions against Iran, which will have a negative impact on UK businesses operating in the country. May was said to have raised these concerns in a call with Trump on Friday. Foreign ministers from Britain, Germany, France and Iran are due to meet in Brussels on Tuesday.
