Austrian FM wedding: Restaurant chef seeks selfie with Putin, but has no special dish for him

Austrian FM wedding: Restaurant chef seeks selfie with Putin, but has no special dish for him

The chef of a restaurant hosting the wedding of Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl is looking forward to taking a selfie with “secret guest” Vladimir Putin – but he has no plans to make a special dish for Russia’s leader.

The wedding of Kneissl is expected to be quite a party with more than 100 guests in attendance, according to chef Heinz Preschan of the Gasthaus Tscheppe an der Weinstrasse, the restaurant hosting the event. Kneissl and multi-millionaire entrepreneur Wolfgang Meilinger will tie the knot on Saturday in the village of Gamlitz, in Austria’s Styria region.

The wedding meal was initially planned to be way smaller – with only 20 people set to attend, but it’s scope grew rapidly, especially after it was revealed that “special guest” Putin will drop in, Preschan told Kurier.

Preschan admitted he did not, however, have any special dish for Putin in mind and is focusing on the wishes of the bride and groom. The menu will include fish and meat dishes, as well as Styrian specialties, namely the apple-horseradish sauce, according to the chef. Kneissl will be served with a vegetarian menu.

“Hopefully, I won’t spoil anything. And [make] a selfie with Putin,” Preschan told Kurier.
