‘Looking like a big win!’ Trump congratulates Boris Johnson on imminent election victory

US President Donald Trump commended his British counterpart Boris Johnson for a “big win” after a landslide Conservative victory over Labour's Jeremy Corbyn and other opposition parties.

After refraining from meddling into – er, weighing in on – the British election at a recent NATO summit in London, President Trump relented and offered praise for Johnson’s sizable win in a tweet in the middle of dramatic post-election night across the pond.

With his victory, the PM will be “emboldened” to seek a big trade deal with the US, particularly given that the trade deal with Europe is going to be more difficult than he has admitted. To try to secure a trade deal with Washington will now look like a “very attractive option” for Johnson, believes former Scottish First Minister and host of The Alex Salmond Show on RT.

The problem here will be that Trump is facing impeachment proceedings and that a hostile Congress can still block any trade deals the president makes. Johnson will also need to be wary that anything which suggests that the National Health Service (NHS) would be vulnerable to US private influence is “anathema to voters” — and not just those who voted for Labour and other opposition parties.

Also on rt.com Who’s the bigger Russian agent, Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbyn? Depends who (and when) you ask!
