Hopes for team Russia on the high seas

Team Russia has taken a gamble in its bid to pick up points during the third leg of the Volvo Ocean Race. The eight yachts are just over half-way as they head to Singapore from India and are approaching a scoring gate.

Overall leaders Ericsson Four are currently in pole position. They’re a hundred miles away from the scoring gate, but will have to head north to reach it.

And that could play into team Russia’s hands. They have already headed north away from the rest of the fleet. And even though they are 85 miles behind the leaders, they could make significant gains over the next few hours. It would be a real bonus for the Russian team who are currently rock bottom in the overall standings.
