Bundesliga title race goes down to the wire as Bayern held, Goretzka goal chalked off by VAR

Bundesliga title race goes down to the wire as Bayern held, Goretzka goal chalked off by VAR

The Bundesliga title race is set to go right down to the wire as leaders Bayern Munich missed the chance to clinch the league by drawing 0-0 with RB Leipzig after a Leon Goretzka goal was ruled out for offside by VAR.

That result, coupled with second-placed Borussia Dortmund's 3-2 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf in a back and forth encounter,  sets up a tense final day that will decide the 2019 German champions.

Goretzka's rocket volley on 49 minutes looked to have put Bayern on the way to another successive title but moments later the goal was ruled out after a VAR review for offside.

Even more dramatic was that just before the goal Fortuna had equalized in their game with Dortmund.

Bayern lead the pack on 75 points and travel to FC Kaiserslautern for their ultimate game of the season, whereas Dortmund, trailing the reigning champions by two points, face a trip to Monchengladbach. Both of those games are to take place next Saturday.

Bayern's match with Leipzig was a dress rehearsal for the DFB Pokal final, which will be held on May 25, as Bayern chase a German league and cup double.
