In the wake of the Taliban's shock takeover of Afghanistan, the White House says it didn't evacuate people earlier 'to avoid a complete crisis of confidence' in the Afghan government. But admits that its 'belated response' failed to stop that from happening anyway. Now the UN food agency warns of shortages in Afghanistan within weeks. The organisation's aid chief for the country tells us of a looming humanitarian catastrophe. Former Afghan interpreters, who worked with NATO forces during the 20-year campaign, slam the British government for not getting their families out as relatives fear reprisals from the insurgents now in power. Translators say after years of loyalty such UK treatment's a bitter 'reward'.
