Suspected serial rapist-policeman detained in Moscow

A police officer suspected of at least 20 instances of rape has been arrested in Moscow – the latest scandal to shake Russian police in the past year.

The detention took place on Thursday when he was caught trying to rape a woman in an elevator.

Initially, the traffic policeman was suspected of a single act of rape, but later the police associated him with a series of similar offences committed in southern Moscow districts of Zyablikovo and Orekhovo-Borisovo.

The rapist often attacked young women in apartment building entrances and was dubbed “the Zyablikovo Maniac”.
