Heavy showers flood capital of southern Russian republic

The water level in several streets of the city of Vladikavkaz in the Republic of North Ossetia has risen to two meters, with over 40 houses reported up to their windows in water.

The downpour and hail caused power cuts on Friday, which have now been restored.

Some roads were badly damaged, which led to long queues of traffic.

No injuries were reported, but one woman was filmed being carried from her house on a stretcher.

The floods are receding but showers and mudslides are expected to continue over the next few days.

The mayor of the city has declared a state of emergency.
