10 people have been killed and four people injured after a fire broke out in a night club in central Moscow. An investigation into the cause of the blaze is now underway.
The fire started just after 3 a.m. on Sunday morning at a popular Moscow nightclub in the Lenkom theatre.A total of 25 fire brigades were called to the scene and battled to put out the blaze. They found ten dead bodies inside the building. The fire was quickly localized and liquidated. The amount of deaths is connected to the fact that the room didn’t have any windows, hence the smoke had nowhere to go. A lot of people died on the entresol because of smoke and quick spread of the fire.“This club often runs shows with fire. The first two litres of alcohol caught on fire, then a five-litre container caught fire, then the fire spread to the stage. There was heavy smoke and people couldn't get out quickly, that's why there are so many victims,” said Vladimir Ponevezhskiy, Moscow's Deputy Prosecutor.150 people were immediately evacuated and four are now being treated in hospital. The club itself is housed , one of the most famous theatres in Moscow. Firefighters managed to put out the fire in just over an hour, quick enough to ensure the flames were contained inside the club causing no damage to the theatre building. The area now is sealed off as investigators try to find out how the fire started and this tragedy came about .
