EXCLUSIVE: View of science center in Syria targeted by US-led strikes (VIDEO)

A scientific facility in Barzeh, north of Damascus, has been targeted during the US-led airstrikes overnight. Footage from the scene shows the building has sustained heavy damage.

The Center for Scientific Research partially collapsed after reportedly being hit by several missiles during the attack. No one was injured during the strike, according to Syrian state media.

It remains unclear whether the facility was, in fact, operational in the first place, however. Despite this, the Pentagon claimed that the attack on this facility “crippled” what they referred to as a Syrian chemical weapons program.

Early on Saturday, the US and its allies launched over 100 missiles on civilian and military facilities in Syria, citing the alleged chemical incident in the town of Douma as a pretext. Syrian air defense systems intercepted 71 cruise and air-to-surface missiles fired by Washington and its allies, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

While the purported incident is yet to be investigated by the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, whose experts are to start the work on Saturday, western powers were quick to blame the Syrian government.
