'Turks are barbaric & dirty': Greek MEP booted out of plenary for insults (VIDEO)
In a debate on the EU-Turkey summit on Wednesday morning, Synadinos, a member of Greece’s Golden Dawn party, told the Strasbourg-based parliament that “as it has been expressed in scientific literature, the Turks are dirty and barbaric.”
“Turks are like wild dogs when they play, but when they have to fight against their enemies, they run away,” he added. “The only effective way to deal with the Turks is with decisive and resolute attitudes.”
Later on Wednesday, Martin Schulz, president of the European Parliament, told the chamber that it “should not fail to react” to the remarks.
“We absolutely must react to the incident,” said Schulz, who then recited Synadinos’ earlier comments.
“That ladies and gentlemen is a sentence which, in accordance to article 165 of the rules of procedure, represents a breach of the values of the EU,” explained Schulz, who condemned the outburst as “racism.”
Schulz then ordered Synadinos to leave the chamber, which he duly did, while two fellow Golden Dawn MEPs shouted at Schulz, calling him a “fascist.”
