No reason to deploy US missiles in Poland – Russia

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Grushko has voiced concerns over the recent deployment of Patriot missiles in Poland by the United States.

“We are not hiding our reaction; we are closely watching the process. We see neither political, nor military reasons for such deployment near the Russian border,” said Grushko.

Grushko pointed out that if the deployment becomes permanent, it will be a violation of an essential treaty between Russia and NATO, stipulating that the parties should refrain from permanent deployment of its forces in the areas adjoining the parties’ borders.

“We are going to work with NATO in deciphering this treaty and as a result have binding agreements fixed,” said Grushko.
