2 dead in New Jersey plane crash, 3 buildings set ablaze

Two people have died after a Learjet 35 crashed while landing at Teterboro Airport, leaving multiple buildings on fire, according to reports.

Carlstadt police confirmed two fatalities, WNBC reported. Police reported that two crew members died, but that the plane was not carrying other passengers.

The small twin-engine jet plane was identified by the Federal Aviation Administration, according to WNBC.

The flight reportedly departed from the Philadelphia International Airport.

“A Learjet 35 crashed on approach to Runway 1 at Teterboro Airport at 3:30 pm today,” the FAA said in a statement.

“The aircraft went down about 1/4 mile from the airport in a residential area. The flight departed from Philadelphia International Airport and was headed to Teterboro. The FAA is enroute to the scene. Local authorities will release information about people on board the aircraft. We will update this statement when we get new information.”

Three buildings were hit as the plane crashed, according to a spokesperson of Carlstadt, the neighborhood where the crash took place, according to WNBC. Parked vehicles were also burned. The Teterboro Airport has reportedly closed, but no other injuries have been reported.
