Fast & furious burglar foiled by traffic jam as armed police swoop in (VIDEO)

CCTV footage shows the moment a UK burglar's joyrider came to an end.

Martin Tolan was speeding from the police in a stolen Mini when he found himself stuck in gridlocked traffic. Despite his best efforts to plough through the cars, he became wedged between three other vehicles.

The joyride cost Tolan nine years in jail.

Armed West Midlands Police officers quickly surrounded the car as it attempted to escape the gridlock.

Police smashed the windows of the car and pulled him out onto the road. The Birmingham Mail reports three people were injured by Tolan’s attempts to flee.

Tolan appeared before Birmingham Crown Court on July 27 and was jailed for 9 years and 11 months, West Midlands Police said.

He was linked to a number of burglaries, and committed three more burglaries while out on bail, the Birmingham Mail reports.
